¿What is gazelab?

It is a Videoculograph (VOG) with a laser projection system, integral with the patient's head. GazeLab allows you to measure accurately complex biomechanical diseases.

- Versions.
- Cover Uncover test.
- Alternate Cover test.
- Bielchowsky test.
- Ocular Motility Limits.
- Ocular Motility Recording.

This medical device is equipped with two cameras with infrared vision, which allows you to record the eye movements with great precision. The laser projector leads the patient's gaze, projecting at any point in space.

1. Laser projector
2. Infra red Cameras
3. Head Subjection System
4.(*) Computer with the preinstalled software.

While the projection system leads the gaze, the cameras film both eyes and the computer analyzes the images (scanning the pupil and the iris) to measure:

  • How much the ocular deviation is (between both eyes),
  • What the behavior of the pupils is,
  • How the eyes are oscillating,
  • And if the eye is in torsion and how much this torsion is.

¿Why gazelab?

It is an exclusive device which studies the eye in its natural condition, in motion.
- It can measure the movement of the eyes.
- It analyzes the complete ocular motility field.

It increases accuracy and measurement capability which:
- Helps you in your diagnosis.
- Provides you with the ability to analyze every muscle independently.
- Helps you to optimize treatments.
- Facilitates post-surgery monitoring.
- Improves surgical success rate.

It controls the gaze of the patient with the projection system and explores concrete positions.

It has an Objective Measurement independent of the Explorer.

It has Pattern Projection, Gaze Position & recording all together in the same reference system. The head movements don’t affect the Measurements.

Documentary evidence annexable to the clinical history.
- It can be printed, exported to PDF or shared by email.
- Ability to compare results from past exams.
- Helps you to give better diagnosis.
- Presents your results in an OBJECTIVE manner (for surgeries and for orthoptical treatment).
- It has legal value.

Robust ocular rotations measurements.

Ability to measure accommodation-convergence Reflex.

High potential as a Research Tool.

Helps you to reduce costs avoiding unsuccessful surgeries.

Ophthalmologists look more professional and scientific to the final customers (your patients).

Eyes in motion

Most of already existing ophthalmological devices explore parts of the eye (anatomical structures) from a static point of view. For example, with the slit lamp you can observe the anterior segment of the eye; the ophthalmoscope does the same with the fundus of the eye; or the OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) that shows cuts of the retina and choroid. For all of them the patient must be still. In any case, it is impossible to measure the movements with current devices (we can observe pupillary reflexes but not measure them).

However, GazeLab is a device that is intended to cover this need. That is, to study the eye in its natural condition, in motion, so we can measure pathologies related the ocular biomechanic dysfunctions.

Currently, the only device we can find in ophthalmologists’ repertoire that tries to cover the need of measure a change in eye position is the Synoptophore. It is used in most of the cases by strabismus specialist. This device is by definition an optical device, 100% manual and quite complex to handle. The Synoptophore does not provide adequate precision, neither does it allow measurement of complex diseases, nor does it permit exploration reporting. Additionally, the result of the exploration is subjective; it depends on who performs the examination and patient's cooperation. Thus, it has fallen into disuse as a measuring instrument.

GazeLab makes a huge technological jump to offer you the possibility to measure the eyes in his natural condition, in motion.

The Glasses Concept

Valid reference system

The chin support is replaced by "glasses". It has an integrated projection system which projects a light spot in front of the patient. Spots displacements are related with a previous selected pattern.

If the patient moves his head, both the projection and the measurement systems (cameras), move along with it, always keeping the point of reference (the point of reference is on the head, not on the floor). This prevents head movements to influence the measurements in any way.

For this kind of measurement, the chin support ends up being a hindrance and leads to errors.
The head only moves when in the chin support!
